The Indian nominee for the post of UN Secretary General wins the support of major powers
Reports mentioned that it is expected that the US and major powers would support the nomination of India of its candidate to the post of the UN Secretary General to follow Kofi Annan by the end of the current year.
Quoting informed sources, reports said that New Delhi decided to nominate Shashi Tharoor for the highest post in the UN after it conducted unofficial consultations with major powers and got positive responses. They also mentioned that a high-ranking official in the US Administration confirmed that India informed the US of its decision regarding the nomination of Shashi Tharoor and that the Indian Embassy in Washington sent a diplomatic note to the State Department through the International Relations Bureau in the department to this effect.
