The Egyptian Ambassador to India Dr. Mohammed Hegazi confirmed that the political, economic and commercial relations between Egypt and India have witnessed remarkable developments over the past two years.

 

He added that trade exchange between the two countries reached about US$ 3.49 billion in 2007 compared to US$ 2.12 billion in 2006. So, this indicates that the volume of bilateral trade has increased by 64.4% this year.

 

The Egyptian exports to India are more than those of India to Egypt and this means that the balance of trade is in favour of Egypt. The Egyptian exports to India registered US$ 1.89 billion in 2007 against US$ 1.39 billion in 2006 and this means that they are increased by 35.5%. On the other hand, the Indian exports to Egypt in 2007 amounted to US$ 1.60 billion compared to US$ 731 million in 2006, thus increasing by 114.4%.

 

Ambassador Hegazi said that the Egyptian exports to India in 2007 included crude oil & its products, natural gas, raw cotton, rock phosphate, coking coal and iron.

 

The Egyptian Ambassador expected that trade exchange between
the two countries would reach about US$ 4 billion by the end of the current year, 2008.
