Al Gomhuria editorial: Historical relations between Egypt and India
Given the deep historical relations and the successful joint efforts for establishing stability and peace for humanity, the Egyptian President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak starts a visit to India, the friend country, where he will receive Nehru Award for International Understanding. The award reflects the appreciation of this friend people and its government to the continuous efforts of President Mubarak for establishing peace in the Middle East and South Asia, as well as his persistent efforts to promote the third world that it may emerge and participate in establishing a new world order, a just and equitable order. Political and public circles in India consider President Mubarak, as the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said, an enlightened politician and a leader of an important and effective country of ancient civilization, a country that have deep-rooted historical relations with India.
The visit of President Mubarak aims for achieving the interests of the Egyptian citizen and going ahead with achieving endurable development and comprehensive rise. Therefore, the visit of President Mubarak to India covers various economic, investment, cultural exchange and IT issues. The trade exchange volume between the two countries rose by 84% over the last year. Indian investments in Egypt exceeded $1 billion. Historically, India and Egypt have been cofounders of the Non-Aligned Movement. Both countries are bent on establishing equity between the South and the North, strongly standing up to attempts of marginalization, building up strong economy, and preserving social and cultural values championing civilization and enlightenment.
