An Exhibition
of Photographs entitled "India - A Journey Within"
at the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture, Cairo
June 29- July
15, 2010
The Maulana Azad Centre
for Indian Culture (MACIC) is organizing an exhibition of photographs on India
entitled "India - A Journey Within" by Dr Nicolo Tassoni Estense. His Excellency Mr Mohsen Shaalan, First Under Secretary of State and Head of the Fine Arts Sector in the
Ministry of Culture, ARE and Ambassador of India to Egypt Mr R. Swaminathan will inaugurate the exhibition at 7.00 p.m on 29 June 2010 (Tuesday) at the Centre at 23, Talaat Harb St, Downtown, Cairo.
The 44
photographs exhibited in the collection, which in colour
and composition are evocative of paintings, portray scenes from everyday life
of ordinary men, women and children in rural and urban India reflecting the
cultural and geographical diversity of the country. The magic of a silvery dawn when the fisherman
examines his catch in the river Narmada in central India; the explosive blue
and yellow of a public bus in busy Kolkata; toddlers and young children
drinking, eating, lolling and gazing; the serenity of pilgrims at the ancient ghats of the river Ganges; the magnificent grey
landscape of Ladakh - all these and more can be seen
in the exhibition.
The photographs
were taken by Dr Nicolo Tassoni
Estense, an Italian diplomat, during his posting in
India from 2006-2009. “The photos
of this exhibition are a small tribute to beloved India. I hope that through
them you will share my journey and a glimpse of the multitude of sensations and
feelings I faced in the three years spent in such an extraordinary country…
From the burning plains of the Thar desert, to the
joy of Varanasi’s pilgrims, from the gentle people of Ladakh,
to the eternal decadent beauty of Calcutta, there is no corner of India that
has not generously revealed to me a secret, or simply an unexpected feeling”,
says Dr Tassoni who is presently posted as the
Economic Counsellor of the Italian Embassy in Cairo.
The exhibition will remain open until 15th July, 2010 from 10
am to 6 pm daily except on Fridays and Saturdays. All are cordially invited.
