A Panel Discussion titled “Indian Cinema through Egyptian Eyes” at the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture, Cairo

The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC), in cooperation with Egypt-India Friendship Association (EIFA), is organizing a panel discussion titled “Indian Cinema through Egyptian Eyes” on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 6.30 p.m, at the Centre’s premises at 23, Talaat Harb St., Downtown, Cairo. The main speakers will be famous Egyptian film actor Mahmoud Yassin and leading film critic Magda Kheiralla.

 

Mr Mahmoud Yassin is one of Egyptian cinema’s most talented actors who has essayed a number of memorable character roles – ranging from a garbage collector and night watchman to a scholar - in more than four decades in the film industry. He started his acting career in 1968 with a role in the film ‘Kadiya 68’. His latest film was ‘Al Jazeera’ released in 2007. Mr Yassin is also closely involved in humanitarian causes. He has worked as a WFP ambassador raising awareness in the Arab speaking world about the issue of global hunger and currently leads a Giza based charity organisation.

 

A well known journalist and film critic, Ms Magda Kheiralla is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Akher Sa’a magazine of the Al Akhbar group. She regularly contributes to other leading publications as well. She is also a script writer having written film and TV scripts. Both speakers will be sharing with the audience their personal impressions of Indian cinema.

 

H.E Dr Ali El Din Hilal, President, Egypt India Friendship Association and H.E Ambassador of India R Swaminathan will speak on the occasion.  All are cordially invited.
