An Exhibition of Water Colour Paintings on " Monuments of India"

at the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture, Cairo

July 28 – August 31, 2010

The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC) is organizing an exhibition of water colour paintings by Indian painter Kashi Nath Das. His Excellency Mr Hossam Nassar, First Under Secretary of State for Foreign Cultural Relations in the Ministry of Culture, Arab Republic of Egypt and Ambassador of India to Egypt Mr R.Swaminathan will inaugurate the exhibition at 7.00 p.m on 28 July, 2010 (Wednesday) at the Centre at 23, Talaat Harb St, Downtown, Cairo.

Kashi Nath Das, born in Kolkata in May 1973, is one of India’s prominent young painters. After spending his early years in Kolkata and winning recognition at the state level for his artistic works, Kashi Nath Das moved to Delhi for his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the College of Arts, University of Delhi (2004) where he won medals and awards for his paintings at the all-India level.  His works grace several institutional collections including those of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the College of Arts, New Delhi, and leading Indian hotels. He has participated in several national and international painting exhibitions.

The 25 original water colour paintings exhibited in the collection are artistic representations of some of India’s most famous monuments. The monuments range from the Taj Mahal representing the zenith of Moghul architecture in India; ancient river ghats of Varanasi; the magnificent sandstone forts of Rajasthan; the awe-inspiring temple complex of Khajuraho (10th century A.D);  Delhi’s Qutb Minar (12th century AD), the world’s tallest free standing minaret in brick; the  9-storey high victory tower or Vijay Sthamb of Chittor (15th century AD); and the Indo-Saracenic splendour of the colonial era.

With a few delicate brush strokes and expert use of pastel colours, Kashi Nath Das has evoked the grandeur and sweep of India’s rich architectural heritage.

The exhibition will remain open until 31 August, 2010 from 10 am to 6 pm daily except on Fridays and Saturdays. All are cordially invited. For further details, please contact the Centre at:
