World Hindi Day

 

The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC), Embassy of India, Cairo will be celebrating the Vishwa Hindi Diwas or World Hindi Day on 14 January 2010 (Thursday) at 5.30 p.m  at its premises at 23, Talaat Harb Street, Down Town Cairo.

 

Hindi, the official language of the Republic of India, is spoken by a majority of Indians and is considered the third most widely spoken language in the world. Hindi is spoken not only in India but all over the world wherever people of Indian origin have settled down. Further, with the increasing popularity of Indian, particularly Hindi films, Hindi has become a familiar language to many non-Indians.

 

Since 2006, to propagate the use of Hindi abroad, the World Hindi Day is celebrated by Indian Missions the world over.

 

The programme on 14 January, 2010 will include speeches in Hindi and Arabic, recitation of Hindi poems, rendering of songs in Hindi by Indians and Egyptians. The programme is being organized with the active support of the Egypt-India Friendship Association and members of the Indian community in Egypt.
