The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC), Embassy of India, Cairo, is pleased to announce that renowned radio artist Abla Fadila and Ambassador of India to Egypt H. E. Mr. R Swaminathan will distribute prizes and certificates to the 95 winners of the 15th annual “Glimpses of India” painting competition at a ceremony that will be organized at the Gomhuria Theatre at Abdeen at 6 PM on May 5, 2010.

Abla Fadila has been working with Cairo Radio for about five decades recounting stories for children. Her voice is recognized all over Egypt and she is a beloved friend and mother figure to millions of Egyptians who have grown up listening to stories read out by her.

To commemorate the birthdays of Mahatma Gandhi, father of the Indian nation, Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, independent India’s first Education Minister, the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC) has been conducting a painting competition for Egyptian children called the “Glimpses of India” painting competition in November every year in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of ARE.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, last year’s painting competition was postponed to this year and held in April 2010. Around 1500 children in the age groups 6-12 years (Primary), 13-15 years (Preparatory) and 16-18 years (Secondary) including children with special needs from government, private and national institutes in Greater Cairo and Alexandria participated in the competition. A 3-member independent jury selected 95 winners from 17 different categories. A catalogue carrying all the winning paintings of the children will be distributed at the ceremony.
