Increase in India's Contribution to UNRWA

It has been decided to increase India's contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to $ 1 million. UNRWA is marking its 60^th Anniversary this year and the enhanced contribution is in keeping with India's consistent and principled support for the people of Palestine. Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has, in a letter to the Commissioner General of UNRWA, Ms. Karen Abu Zayd, conveyed the decision regarding this enhanced contribution. In January 2009, in response to an UNRWA Flash Appeal, the Government of India had made a special assistance of $ 1 million for relief work in Gaza Strip.
