Visit of Indian Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry delegation to Egypt

 

    A business delegation from the Basic Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics Export Promotion Council of India, popularly known as “CHEMEXCIL” is visiting Egypt from 16 – 20 December, 2006. This is the third visit of CHEMEXCIL to Egypt this year alone, indicating the growing relationship between Indian and Egyptian industry in this sector. The companies represented in this delegation cover Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, Dyes & Dye Intermediates and Colouring Agents, Chemicals and pesticides.  CHEMEXCIL has membership strength of more than 4,000 companies spread all over India.

 

    The All India Association of Industries (AIAI), representing 1,400 manufacturers and exporters are also participating in this business delegation.

 

    The Indian chemical industry has a total turnover of about US$ 40,000 million and ranks 12th by volume in the world production of chemicals. India produces nearly 70,000 commercial products, ranging from Cosmetics and Toiletries, to plastics and pesticides.

 

    Indian Pharmaceutical Industry ranks 4th in the world in terms of volume of production with a total sales of US $ 8,500 million of which exports constitute US$ 3,700 million or 40% of the total production. Indian bulk drugs & formulations are exported to over 100 countries all over world. India is today a hub of world class manufacturing locations. Indian pharmaceutical companies have become multinational, with manufacturing plants and joint ventures in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, including in Egypt.

 

    India has about 1,000 units producing dyes and dye intermediates. Total production of dyestuff in India is around 1, 30,000 tonnes per annum. Indian Dyestuffs are being exported to East, South and West Asia, Africa, USA and Europe.

 

    The objective of the CHEMEXCIL-AIAI visit is to understand the needs of the Egyptian market and to explore possibilities of Joint Ventures and other forms of cooperation with Egyptian partners. The delegation will hold Business Interaction sessions in Cairo and Alexandria and also visit chemical and textile factories during their visit.
