Oracle finds India better than China

December 15, 2006

BS Reporter / Hyderabad:

Oracle is finding India a more attractive business opportunity than China in telecom applications business for more than one reason.

With India being the fastest growing mobile telephony market surpassing China recently, the country's diverse telecom sector profile with GSM, CDMA, wireless and conventional modes make a grand concert unlike that in China where the choice is limited, and accordingly offers little business opportunities to software application providers like Oracle.

"The adaptability of telecom software solutions in India is also far greater compared to China due to reasons like the English language base and the whole country acting as a single unit when it comes to telecom services. In China, each province acts differently making it difficult for any service provider to come up with an integrated product at the national level," Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager of Oracle's Communications Global Business Unit, said today.

According to him, besides the 5 million-plus connections being added every month, other areas such as broadband and IPTV are going to see enormous growth in the coming days in India. "As far as Oracle's application suite is concerned, it provides the platform for all these businesses. Even the Worldspace radio works on it," Bhaskar said.
