Visit of H. E. Ambassador C.R. Gharekhan, India’s Special Envoy for West Asia & the Middle East Peace Process to Cairo

H. E. Ambassador C. R. Gharekhan, India’s Special Envoy for West Asia & the Middle East Peace Process visited Cairo on 5-6 September 2007 as part of his tour of the region.

 

Ambassador Gharekhan called on H. E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Minister of Foreign Affairs; H. E. Mrs. Fayza Aboulnaga, Minister of International Cooperation; and H.E. Ambassador Soliman Awad, Spokesperson to the President.  He also met with Ambassador Mohamed Bassiyonni, Chairman of the Arab Foreign Affairs and National Security committee of the Shoura Council. During the meetings, a comprehensive exchange of views took place on the situation in the Middle East. Ambassador Gharekhan reiterated India’s appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in promoting peace and stability in the region.

 

Ambassador Gharekhan also called on H. E. Mr. Amre Moussa, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. H.E. Mr. Amre Moussa briefed Ambassador Gharekhan about the Arab League’s perspectives on the Middle East Peace Process and the situation in the region.
